So that one may walk in peace

Concealed Carry

I have had a few people inquiring about getting their Concealed Carry training completed for renewal of their Concealed Carry Authorization. One thing that is becoming abundantly clear is that very few people currently carrying concealed are aware of the new Colorado Laws that went into effect on July 1, 2025. Some people are expecting the CCW Instructor to simply re-authorize their training without actually performing the qualifications required by the State of Colorado. This will not happen at Timberwoolfe!

Something else that I have noticed is that many people who have been carrying concealed are saying that they have not shot their gun for years. This is irresponsible and unacceptable! Some of the reasons for not practicing have been, “Ammunition is expensive, I don’t want to shoot it” or “I don’t have the time to practice”. I agree with the Second Amendment that we have “The right to keep and bear arms”, but we also have a responsibility to know how to use the gun that we carry. Failure to Practice is Negligent!

Our’ four hour Concealed Carry Class includes training in Gun Safety, Methods of Concealed Carry, Drawing from Concealment, Mindset, Responding to an Attack, Interfacing with Law Enforce, Basic Defensive Pistol Skills, and State Law Pertaining to Use of Deadly Force. There is no way that we can cover all these important topics, complete a written test and the shooting qualification is less than Four Hours. Plus, we will spend at least an hour with the Shooters on drawing from concealment, emergency reloads, single-handed shooting, and distance shooting. I think you get the picture that we are taking Concealed Carry Training very seriously.

We do want to take into consideration the Concealed Carry people who also take carrying a gun serious. Therefore, we are offering a shortened version that we expect will take about two hours. This course is only for those who have practiced and are very comfortable with carrying and shooting a pistol. The Concealed Carry Shooter Qualification Course will still cover the State of Colorado requirements for lecture and testing. Here is what we expect from the Shooter: You have actually practiced from concealment! After successful completion of the written exam, the student(s) will move to the Shooting Qualification. Students will have time to review the Qualification before the exercise. Each shooter will step-up and take the Shooting Qualification. There is not additional training. All objective scoring as defined by the National Rifle Association will apply. Students must pass with an 80% or better. Students are allowed two attempts to pass the Shooter Qualification. Failure to pass requires the student to attempt the course at a later date (After practicing). Regardless of Pass or Fail, all students will receive a copy of the NRA Shooter Qualifications for guidance during practice.

I hope this helps us all to be better protectors of ourselves and those we care about!
